2. Neuer Partner – Neptunbad

3. MACH3: Triathlon fever joins Neptunbad
In March, the starter’s gun will go off for the first premium triathlon project in the Cologne Neptunbad Premium Sports & Spa. Our personal trainer Ben Schneider from NAO PT and the 8-times Ironman winner Jürgen Zäck will prepare new-comers for their first tri event under the motto „You will finish“. But well-trained triathletes can also benefit from the programme. „We are going to invite professionals of the sport to join our training“, explains project manager Ben Schneider. Each of the three sports is a offered in a special guided course once a week. Moreover, there will be one-day clinics and workshops held by triathlon professionals on a regular basis. The project’s highlight will be a training camp to round of your preparation for Cologne Triathlon Weekend. To get a good start into the immediate event preparation Jürgen Zäck will give you professional insight into swimming technique, time trial on the bike and perfect transitions. The 2-day training camp will be held on the original competition course on Lake Fühlinger See and at the Neptunbad facilities. |
4. A reliable partner again: ERDINGER Alkoholfrei soft beer
There is hardly a triathlete who hasn’t tested tasty ERDINGER Alkoholfrei yet. Many drank their first ERDINGER Alkoholfrei in the Cologne Triathlon Weekend finish area. We are pleased that ERDINGER Alkoholfrei will offer their refreshing product to Cologne athletes for three more years. The partner remains the same but there will be a change: The ERDINGER Alkoholfrei TRI-Cup has been existing for seven years now, so it was time to modify and update the series to increase participant identification and promote the brand ERDINGER Alkoholfrei as a welcome thirst crusher for all triathletes. So, the ERDINGER Alkoholfrei TRI Open came into being! Compared to the traditional TRI-Cup the new ERDINGER Alkoholfrei TRI Open does not aim at the best of the best, but to be a part of the movement: it’s irrelevant whether you cross the line as the first or last. It’s the distance that counts: the more challenging the triathlon, the more points you get. |
5. Bike & Run Cologne 2011
Many athletes and others sent questions concerning the 1st Bike & Run Cologne we organized in 2010. Here is the place to answer all these frankly and in detail. Bad news first: there will be no Bike & Run Cologne 2011 within the framework of the Severinslauf event. Unfortunately, the permit requiring time window is to small to expand the bike course as we originally intended before sending out the athletes on a 10km or 21,1 km run afterwards. So, there will be no Bike & Run Cologne on 24.04.2011 (although it is still communicated in some event databases).
As there was a lot of positive feedback from your side we have search and found a good solution. Time for good news now: The 2nd Bike & Run Cologne is planned for April 10th, 2011 and will be held in and around Forstbotanischenr Garten, a very nice sylvan parkside in the south of Cologne!
For all those who are new to the idea of a Bike & Run Cologne event, here's what it is all about. The idea is to offer multi-sport athletes a form check or test event before the first triathlon of the season. It will include a 30km individual time trial (3 bike laps on a very fast round course with on turnaround point each). Athletes will start with a 20 to 30 sec delay – from a Tour de France like ramp of course. Then, the athlete starts directly, i.e. without a break, onto the 10km run which is held on 3,3 km round course inside Forstbotanischer Garten. This makes it different from last year’s event. It also means there will be a transition zone between the bike leg and the run. You will have a real time bike to run transition just like in the triathlons to come including parking your bike, getting rid of your helmet and putting on your running shoes. (Bike are under guard, of course!)
Here, you can show where your training in winter has brought you ... Couch potato or carbon power? Fatty waist or perfect body-mass index? Show your performance!
If you prefer a less dramatic approach to the new season, there also is a pure running contest during Bike & Run Cologne. You can choose between a 10km (3 laps) or 20km run (6 laps).
Of course, there will be an athletes garden after the finish line with almost everything you might desire. In a relaxed atmosphere you can discuss the event and more to come.
Bike & Run Cologne will start at 9:00 a.m., the pure run approx. at 1:30 p.m. We would like to ask all competitors with winning chances to contact us already now by a short e-mail to info@koeln-triathlon.de, so that we can put up the elite into one pack. There will be a special section on our website soon under giving you further information and the registration form.
The organization depends on an official permit by the City of Cologne which is still pending and a minimum participants number of 100!
6. Course changes for 2011
Immediately after the 2010 event, we announced changes to the CTW 2011, and stated our intention to locate a single area large enough to incorporate transition area II and the finishing straight, including the Athletes Garden directly adjacent to it. We’re delighted to announce that we’ve found exactly the space we were looking for! We’re moving transition area II and the finish back to the right bank of the Rhine. Apart from the vast increase in available space, it means we regain the ultimate picture-postcard panorama of our beautiful city and its landmark cathedral! Those of you who’ve been watching our event develop over the years will certainly recall that the finish in 2008 and 2009 was at the LVR (Landschaftsverband Rheinland) building right on the river Rhine, with a view over to the cathedral, between Deutzer Brücke and Hohenzollernbrücke. Construction work in this area forced us to move last year. Thanks to a slightly altered course, and especially with the tremendous support of LVR and the Hyatt Regency Hotel, we’ve been able to move this year’s finish back to the right bank of the river. We’re delighted we’ll be literally going back to our partner LVR. It’s been a magnificent partnership in recent years and we’re looking forward to continuing it! As a result of moving the finish, the running course will also change slightly. The route will run along the left bank of the river on the Rheinpromenade, and on the right back will include the wonderful Jugendpark. It means a fantastic mix of urban (left bank) and natural (right bank) scenery. The running course will also cross at least two bridges. We’ll release plans of the new routes as soon as we’ve obtained the necessary permits.
7. Get to know our Sub Series!
We’ve been running our Sub Series for a few years now, billing it as “Win back your entry fee!”. We’ve set times to beat for both Cologne226 and Cologne226 half. The target times are aimed at ambitious athletes, who are not (yet) pros but who are well worth keeping an eye on. We’re giving these athletes the chance to win back their entire entry fees, meaning they take part at CTW free of charge – or even at a small profit due to prize money.
If you think you’re capable of finishing Cologne226 in under nine hours for men, or under 10 hours for women, or completing Cologne226 half in under 4:15 for men, or under 4:45 for women, say so on your registration form by checking the box for the relevant Sub Series! After that, we’ll tell the world about your race against time by adding your name to the list of Sub Series competitors on our homepage. You’ll start with the elite of the sport in the first starting group (or starting wave as applicable). And if you succeed in beating your target time, send a mail to info@koeln-triathlon.de after the event with your account details, and we’ll refund your entry fee.
Reckon you can do it? Then why wait?
(If you’re already registered but inadvertently failed to check the Sub Series option, just write to us at info@koeln-triathlon.de, and we’ll add you to the list.)
We’re looking forward to seeing you for another fantastic contest!!
